Vegas crash kills 49-year-old man after Mustang runs red light

A 49-year-old Las Vegas man was killed just after 5:30 a.m. Saturday when a two-vehicle crash at East Washington Avenue and North Bruce Street in Vegas sent a 2015 Ford Mustang convertible into the side of his pickup. Police said the Mustang, driven by , 21, was moving at excessive speed and entered the intersection as the light turned red.

The victim was driving a 1993 Nissan truck and had been turning left on the yellow light when the Mustang’s front end struck the right side of the truck. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Gonzalez-Medina and a passenger in the Mustang were taken to University Medical Center, where the passenger was listed in critical condition.

said Gonzalez-Medina failed to decrease speed and use due care while approaching the intersection. Officers also said she showed signs of impairment. She was arrested and booked in absentia on charges related to DUI and reckless driving. Metro said the man’s death was the 48th traffic-related fatality in its jurisdiction in 2026.

The crash fits a pattern police have been tracking through the year: speed, impairment and split-second decisions at intersections continue to turn ordinary commutes into fatal collisions. Vegas has already seen other moments where a fast decision changed everything, from a playoff save captured in a single frame to the buildup around major sports and event traffic, but Saturday’s wreck carried a far heavier cost than anything on a calendar.

What happened next is in the hands of investigators and prosecutors. Police have already tied the crash to speed and suspected impairment, and the case now moves forward with one driver dead, one passenger critically injured and a 21-year-old woman facing DUI-related and reckless-driving charges after sunrise on a city street.
