A fire broke out at The Temple in Beauvais in the early hours of Friday 22 May to Saturday 23 May, leaving the restaurant closed for at least two months and putting 10 employees on chômage technique. No one was injured, but the damage inside the restaurant on rue Jacques-Goddet was described as important, with the interior blackened by smoke.
The owners said the blaze started around 4 a.m. and believe a small television caught fire. “On avait une petite télé, c’est ce qui a pris feu,” they said, adding that the restaurant was fully shut when the fire spread. “Tout était fermé, la police judiciaire est passée,” they said. The police judiciaire visited the site, and the owners said they were waiting for the insurance expert to come.
The fire hit a business that had opened only in June 2025, turning a recent launch into a forced shutdown just as the restaurant was finding its footing. A repair worker was already at the restaurant on Saturday 23 May, but the owners said the place would remain closed while the damage was assessed and repairs were planned.
They also said the fire was not criminal, a point that matters as the rebuilding process begins. The next step is the insurance inspection, which will determine how quickly The Temple can reopen and how much of the interior must be replaced before customers are allowed back inside.
