Car Chase in Green Bay and Rhinelander ends with arrests Friday

Security cameras captured a police chase just before 8 p.m. Friday in Green Bay, Wisconsin, ending with an officer tackling a suspect who had run on foot through the parking lot of ’s station. Police on scene said the man had a warrant and ran from officers, setting off the chase that wound past St. Francis Xavier Cathedral and into the station lot.

The video shows an officer driving through the cathedral parking lot as a man in a red sweatshirt and grey sweatpants ran toward the street. The officer turned on the squad lights and drove the wrong way as the suspect crossed into the back of the WBAY-TV parking lot, stopped for a second, then kept running. An officer got out of the squad car and chased him on foot. Seconds later, the suspect put his hands up, dropped to the ground and was tackled.

The Green Bay chase came on the same Friday that four people were arrested after a separate pursuit in Rhinelander in which shots were fired at officers. That case began at 1:48 p.m., when officers responded to Hodag Park near the boat landing for a report of men shooting a firearm out over Boom Lake. The men left in a red Chevy Cruze, and the chase began.

Police later ended that pursuit in the downtown area because of safety concerns for the community, but officers found the vehicle again on Highway 17 and County Highway P and started another chase. The car re-entered the city on Lincoln Street, prompting officers to terminate it again for public safety. During the pursuit, shots were fired from the vehicle at officers. The driver then slowed down, allowing officers to use a on Highway 8 near Beaver Creek Road.

In the end, the four people were arrested without further incident. The Rhinelander case remained under investigation, with the and assisting, but police said there was no ongoing threat or danger to the public. In Green Bay, the footage shows how quickly a warrant stop turned into a sprint, then ended within seconds once the suspect hit the ground.
