Police in St. Paul are investigating a homicide after a man was found dead Monday morning on the 1400 block of Case Avenue. Officers were called to the area around 11 a.m. after a passerby reported seeing a man lying between railroad tracks.
When police arrived, they found the man with injuries from an edged weapon. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities said they are still working to learn what led up to the death. The case is now the fifth homicide of the year in St. Paul, adding another killing to a year in which investigators have already been pressed to piece together how each deadly episode unfolded.
The immediate facts are clear: someone saw the man down beside the tracks, police responded, and the scene quickly shifted from a welfare check to a homicide probe. What remains unanswered is who the man was and what happened in the moments before he was hurt. That is the part investigators are still trying to reconstruct.
