The Christy Lane Fire that started Sunday evening southwest of Summit in Iron County was 97% contained by Monday morning after briefly forcing evacuations in the Red Canyon subdivision and threatening several structures. Utah Fire Info said no structures were lost.
The fire was first reported at 5:46 p.m. Sunday, and the Red Canyon evacuation order was lifted late that night after crews made what the agency called great progress on the blaze. About 50 people were temporarily moved out, including people in fifth-wheel trailers and a dozen full-time residents, before firefighters secured most of the perimeter.
Utah Fire Info estimated the fire at 15 acres and said federal, state and local firefighters would keep working to suppress the remaining hot spots and secure the fire line on Monday. The agency also urged the public to stay out of the area so crews could continue their work without interference.
The fire remains under investigation after being identified as human-caused, leaving the unanswered question of how it started and who may be responsible. For now, the immediate danger has eased, but the review of the cause is still open.
