The Christy Lane Fire that started Sunday evening southwest of Summit in Iron County was 97% contained by Monday morning, and about 50 people who had been temporarily evacuated were back in their homes. The evacuations in the Red Canyon subdivision were lifted late Sunday night after the blaze was brought under control enough for residents to return.
Utah Fire Info estimated the fire at 15 acres, while another report put it at 40 acres. The fire began at 5:46 p.m. Sunday, and the voluntary evacuation had included people in fifth-wheel trailers and a dozen full-time residents.
The fire matters today because crews were still working to secure the perimeter and suppress it even after the immediate danger eased. Utah Fire Info said aviation and ground resources would continue that work on Monday, and firefighters asked the public to stay out of the area so they could keep moving without interference.
Officials said the blaze was human-caused and remains under investigation, a reminder that the central question is not whether people can go home — they already have — but what set the fire off in the first place. For now, the answer on the ground is clear: the Christy Lane Fire is largely contained, the evacuation is over, and crews are still trying to make sure it stays that way.
