Love Island Season 8 Cast: Maya Jama returns as first six contestants unveiled

, 21, will be one of the first Islanders to enter the villa when returns to screens on 1 June, with back as host and the first six contestants unveiled ahead of the launch.

The initial group — Robyn from Liverpool, , 28, a business owner from Hertfordshire, , 21, a student originally from Barbados who now lives in London, Lola, 25, a detective from Kent, Angelista, 24, a nurse from Staffordshire, and Samuel, 25, an electrician from Dudley — were introduced alongside brief portraits of what each says they want from the show.

Numbers matter here: six names dropped on the release and the series is due to return on 1 June. Robyn, who described her ideal partner as “tall, fair, muscles, nice teeth, pretty boy,” tempered the physical checklist with character: “I’m more into personality though. They’ve got to make me laugh, be charming and have good manners.” She added bluntly about her approach to the villa: “There may be a little bit of drama but I’m going in there for myself, so I’ve got to do what I’ve got to do. But I would like to think I’m a girl’s girl and that I handle situations quite well. I’ve got a mature brain.”

Lorenzo, the 28-year-old business owner, set out his type with equal candour — calling himself “traditionally blonde” and admitting he “quite like[s] a posh girl.” He even singled out a curious preference: “One feature I look at is a girl’s arms, I don’t know why. It’s really strange! Imagine like a Jessica Alba or an Angelina Jolie kind of arm and neck, I find that very elegant. Very niche, I know!”

Mica, one of the youngest contestants at 21, said she wants someone who prioritises her: “That’s not my vibe at all. I can’t have someone who’s more into themselves then they are me. They need to be obsessed with me.” She combined that demand with a line about standards: “The most important thing for me is personality. I just want someone that will make me laugh. I want to get along with someone.” Mica also said she has been protecting her peace before the show but that she will both focus on love and be curious if drama occurs: “I’ll dabble in both I feel. Obviously the whole point is finding love and that’s going to be my main goal. I’m not saying I’m going to start drama but if there is drama going on, I would obviously be a little bit nosey and want to know what’s going on.”

Lola explained she values intelligence: “I like someone who is smart who can teach me things. I like book smart but even if they’re not book smart, I like someone who is like actually teaching me stuff.” Angelista, the nurse, described what she wants in a partner as someone practical and patient: “You can’t just be listening and not doing! Someone that puts actions behind words and is patient.” Samuel and the other early arrivals framed their approaches more cautiously; one of the Islanders, , who is a model from Birmingham, said he won’t throw himself forward immediately. “Without sounding arrogant, in the outside world, I don’t really chase that much, I’m used to girls coming to me. I know in the Villa it’s a different dynamic. In the beginning, I’m not going to be pushing myself out there, I’m just gonna watch and see who I like and then go from there.”

Context after the reveal: the dating show is returning as a major summer fixture and the network has signalled this is only the first batch of names. The producers say the first six have been revealed ahead of a larger group entering the villa on Monday 1 June, and the programme is being presented this year as it returns for its 13th season.

The reveal carries an obvious tension. Several contestants insist their primary aim is to find a relationship; others stress self-protection or a desire to observe before engaging. That split — earnest pursuit of love on one side, a readiness for spectacle or strategic caution on the other — creates a fault line the show has always exploited.

These first six sketches make the outcome predictable: the early arrivals mix sincerity and showmanship in roughly equal measures, which means the coming weeks will likely oscillate between genuine coupling and staged conflict. If the opening cast is any guide, this series will hinge on whether personalities like Robyn and Mica translate stated intentions into stable partnerships or whether cautious players who say they’ll “watch and see” turn the villa into a theatre of flirtation rather than a place for lasting matches.
