Pat Mcafee welcomes son Midas after emergency C-section and NICU stay

announced on Monday that his wife, Samantha, had given birth to their son, , after an on Friday night prompted by a high-risk pregnancy and severe preeclampsia.

McAfee said the baby arrived on May 22 at 10:42 PM, weighing 6 pounds 6 ounces and born at 36 weeks. "Baby boy officially entered the world on May 22nd at 10:42PM as a 6lb 6oz screaming young legend… 10 Toes, 10 Fingers, full head of hair," he wrote.

The newborn required immediate support to adapt to life outside the womb. McAfee said Midas was sent to the NICU where he wore a CPAP and a feeding tube and was placed in a heated pod under a lamp. "Literally in his first moments of life, Midas was working... He was able to get his O2 Levels high enough to be able to come hang with us in our room," McAfee wrote, adding that the infant stayed roughly 36 hours in the NICU before being released back to the family room.

McAfee described the early hours as a mixture of relief and fear. "So many dreams and opportunities waiting for this young stud," he said, while also admitting, "we had a sneaky suspicion that he was a dawg and a fighter but, it is a bit scary to see your baby hooked up to so many ‘very serious’ things." He recounted his wife recovering from what he called a "mind boggling C-Section surgery" while their son was "DAHN the hall."

The name Midas, McAfee said, was not improvised. He wrote that he had hoped to use the name since his freshman year of high school after a teacher, , introduced him to Greek mythology. The child joins McAfee, and his 3-year-old daughter, ; Midas is the couple's second child.

The announcement came on May 25 via McAfee's social post, which used the handle @MrsMcAfeeShow to include his wife and their daughter in the welcome. In his post he emphasized the tiny victories — skin-to-skin time, "10,000 kisses," and the moments parents and newborns treasure — once the infant's oxygen levels allowed him to leave the NICU and rejoin the family in their room.

Context for the public reaction is straightforward: McAfee is a high-profile figure beyond his family life. The former NFL punter became a media personality and signed a five-year, $85 million contract with in 2023, where he appears as a college football analyst and on , making his family updates visible to a large audience.

The friction in the story is the contrast between a long-awaited, lovingly chosen name and a medical emergency that could have derailed the arrival. McAfee's account underscores that joy and risk can arrive together: the birth was successful and the baby stable enough to return to the room, but it began with severe preeclampsia and an emergency operation.

What comes next, by the family's own telling, is recovery and celebration. McAfee said Midas was released from the NICU back to the family room and the family marked the return with "a FULL CELEBRATION." The announcement closes the acute chapter of the delivery: the baby stabilized, the mother recovering, and the parents — now a family of four — together in the hospital, beginning the newborn days McAfee long imagined when he first learned about Midas in high school.
