Riley Green’s Marshals Debut Ends with Garrett’s Death; Cast Says Crew Was Shaken

made his acting debut on as Garrett, a former Navy SEAL who died after a barn fire on ’s ranch, a death the show revealed in its .

Garrett’s final scenes followed his struggle in hospital after the blaze. The episode showed him recovering from burns and smoke inhalation before a nurse told Kayce, Cal and that Garrett had died a couple of hours after Kayce last saw him.

The role was billed as a limited arc before filming began; Green’s Garrett was described in production notes as a five-episode run tied to the May 10 installment, and the storyline included a brief romance with Andrea and the decision to remain in Montana after arriving at East Camp.

, who appears on the series and who spoke about Green’s time on set, said she had seen how his full character arc was meant to play out and that Green himself took the death in stride. Santos recalled that he joked about wishing he could have stayed longer and that the cast teased him about his concert-heavy schedule.

Santos said the hair-and-makeup team in particular took a shine to Green and that he was generous with the crew when his work on the show wrapped. She described him as kind to cast and crew and noted that, on the day he finished shooting, Green was already heading to a performance that night while arranging for flowers to be delivered to the hair-and-makeup team as a thank-you.

Even with that goodwill, Santos said the episode’s content left visible fallout behind the scenes. She told colleagues that people on the crew were upset with showrunner for weeks after they received the episode, a reaction she said lingered across the production for some time.

The arc itself centered on Garrett’s ties to Kayce and Cal as an old Navy SEAL teammate, his arrival at East Camp and the short-lived romance with Andrea that humanized his character before the fire. The May 10 episode established the injuries Garrett suffered at Kayce’s ranch and then moved the storyline forward with the hospital scenes that confirmed his death.

Green’s move from music performance into acting was framed from the outset as temporary; production materials described the part as limited and the on-screen result matched that plan. Santos said Green had a busy schedule because he was often performing, a reality reflected when he left set to perform the night he wrapped and still took time to thank crew members.

The show’s season 1 finale, which will close out the current arc and the immediate fallout from Garrett’s death, airs Sunday, May 24, at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.

Garrett’s death closes the five-episode arc that introduced him as a figure from Kayce and Cal’s past; off camera, Santos’ account makes clear the choice to write him out left cast and crew emotionally affected but also remembering Green’s courtesy. For viewers, the immediate question is already answered: Garrett is dead, and the season will reach its conclusion on May 24 at 8 p.m. ET.
