Firefighters were still on scene late Tuesday working to contain an Albuquerque fire at 4220 Broadway Blvd SE after flames broke out near a building at a recycling plant. Bernalillo County Fire Rescue first responded around 6:35 p.m. and found fire burning close to the structure.
First-arriving crews from BCFR Truck 38 requested a 1st alarm response, and Albuquerque Fire Rescue was called in to help. AFR Engine 2 was already nearby on another outside fire and reportedly saw smoke from the recycling plant blaze before heading to the scene. The fire was later upgraded to a 2nd alarm as crews worked to keep it from spreading to nearby structures.
Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office shut down Broadway Blvd SE in both directions at Prosperity Ave while firefighters fought the blaze. The scene remained active at the time of publication, with crews still trying to bring the fire under control and protect surrounding buildings.
